Sunny skies and cherry blossoms

We arrived safely yesterday evening. We settled into our room at the Woodley Park Guest House and then enjoyed a dinner at a nearby Lebanese restaurant. It had amazing hummus and pita.

We got an early start this morning with our first Metro ride to Union Station. The day started a bit overcast, but cleared up by mid-morning and stayed sunny and warm the rest of the day. As proof, we both have first-rate sunburns. First stop tomorrow- a store that sells sunscreen.

Our busy day consisted of visits to: our nation's capital, the Supreme Court, National Botanical Garden, various Smithsonian museums, the National Mall, the Washington Monument, WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, the White House, and the house where Abraham Lincoln died...boy are we tired! The goal WAS to take it easy today.

My favorite was the WWII Memorial. The fountains were going and a band was playing patriotic tunes. It was a time to reflect on the many sacrifices that were made for America. Tim's favorite was the beautiful cherry blossoms that are in bloom. It was a special treat for him; he has been here many times, but this is the first time he has been able to see the blossoms.

After a lot of walking we ended up at the World Vision office to meet up with Tim's colleagues, with plans to go to a local pub/restaurant. To our surprise, they had planned a baby shower for us. It was so thoughtful and fun!

The D.C. ache returned to our legs and feet as we read about how much you saw in only ONE DAY! We're thinking you must have been roller-blading the mall to cover those kinds of distances!

What beautiful weather and a great pic of the two of you. We're so glad you're experiencing this together and getting in on the cherry blossoms, too. The thoughtful surprise from the D.C. World Vision group certainly topped off a fantastic day.

We love you!

I'm so jealous you guys are there together! Tim, remember how we talked about how we should have Steph and Mark come with us on a business trip to DC? I'm so glad you made it a reality...I love Woodley Park Guest House and the Lebanese place...make sure you take her to the yummy authentic italian place up a stop or two on the subway. Have fun!!!

Enjoy your trip. I went to DC last year and walked the whole city. What a wonderful time of year to be there. Hope you are not feeling too sick.
